A love affair with France. French food. French wine. French décor. French culture. French history. French countryside. We have lived near or in Carcassonne, in the south of France for 17 years, renovating our village home and then restoring a 17th century apartment in a historic part of town. We want to share with you a taste of France, in all its senses, for all your senses–from gastronomy to style. We want to give francophiles and travel fans a taste of life in France.   6. I just discovered your blog while reading the comments on the “Tongue in Cheek” blog and have just subscribed. I had a lovely lunch in Trebes several years ago, after visiting a vide grenier – don’t know the name, but it was on the canal. It was one of those “let’s see where this road goes” days and other than a car ramming into me from behind as I was trying to (albeit slowly) make a left turn from an ally onto a main road, it was lovely. The Minervois became one of my favorite areas and I was staying in Caunes Minervois at L’Ancienne Boulangerie (great place).

      1. You know, I haven’t the faintest idea! I thought I was in Trebes – but maybe it wasn’t the Canal, only a small river. I’ll have to dig up the accident report. I’m enjoying your blog and am reading your earlier posts – excellent!

    1. I know one of the hosts! She taught English at my kid’s elementary school. They also make good wine (that’s almost a boilerplate addition to any comment, isn’t it?).

I lived in Paris for 6 years, now live in Toronto and teach French but own a house – holiday rental – in Nérac, also the “other” South of France. Working on my first cookbook which will feature French food for kids. All the things French! I subscribed so will look forward to following your adventures 🙂

  17. We’ve just bought a house near Castelnaudary and Carcassonne is our nearest large town. Feel so privileged to be here…A dream come true. One which I’ve had since the age of sixteen, when I first came to France on an exchange visit!

      1. Initially it needs doing up so will be spending a lot of time there on and off getting it ready for us to live there all year round. Looking very much forward to this as we’ve been hunting in the Minervois region for a long time!

  23. Thank you for your blog….. reading the day’s entry on my email is a highlight of my day. Your Village Life from yesterday actually made me homesick for France although we have only visited France four or five times in the past 20 years. Our latest visit was last year when my wife and I spent two wonderful weeks in Uzes, in the Langueduc, never taking the rented car out of the parking spot provided by the owners of the apartment until the day we left town. We felt like we were almost “living French”. Your description of Village Life brought that back in a flood.

    Today’s entry on aging and hospice and the angels who attend our loved ones on a daily basis brought tears this morning. Thanks for reminding everyone that there are wonderful people in the world, despite the racist, bigoted actions of a minority of our fellow citizens.

    Thanks again for your blog. I look forward to reading your next installment.

  24. Today is the first time I’ve seen your blog and really enjoy it. I’ve never visited France or lived there, but while reading, I could see the life style I grew up with in the American South. Friends were made by long conversations over tea or coffee for my parents or doing things today for us children. Sunday lunch was either at my grandparents or great grandparents, and there was no exception…we went to either home right from church…lol. What a great childhood we had roaming through the woods near my father’s family’s farm gathering pecans or acorns (food for the pigs), pine cones for decoration, pine or fir branches for wreaths…well, you get the idea. Suffice it to say, that I’m so delighted to have found your blog and look forward to reading many more entries.

    1. Thank you! I’ve never been to the south, but your description sounds a lot like what I grew up with in the Midwest, too. I think it was like that in an earlier era in many places.
